What Happens During a Hypnosis Session?

Hello,

Are you interested in therapeutic hypnosis sessions?

Before making an appointment, you may be wondering What Happens During a First Hypnotherapy Session?, how are the next ones going, or even How to Prepare ?

In fact, hypnosis sparks a lot of curiosity and raises many questions among our clients—all of which are sometimes fueled by ideas or fears stemming from stage hypnosis...
So here are a few answers to to clarify what you can expect during a therapeutic hypnosis session at Solutions Hypnose...

What Happens During a Hypnosis Session?

How long does a hypnosis session last?

The first session with a hypnotherapist on our team lasts between 1 hour and 1 hour and 30 minutes.
It depends, in particular, on the issues involved.
For example, when it comes to changes in eating habits or sleep disorders, many factors can play a role: lifestyle, stress or anxiety, cultural or family influences... and so the process of discussing and understanding your situation and your concerns may take some time.

Subsequent sessions generally last between 45 minutes and 1 hour.

What happens during a first hypnosis session?

First, we'll get to know each other so we can fully understand your situation and clarify your goal.

So we’ll start by talking at length to get to know each other, build trust, and ensure that we fully understand your situation and your goal—because it’s important to get to know you well so that we can then choose mental images and words that resonate with you.

Sometimes the goal isn't really clear: for example, you know what you no longer want, but what do you want to replace that behavior or emotion with?
So we're going to take the time to work together to set a positive and motivating goal, while anticipating any obstacles that might get in your way.

Take as much time as you need to feel confident

Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation, but you still need to feel confident enough to let go and allow your imagination and your subconscious to take over from your rational mind.

The start of the semester is the time when you can ask any questions you have about hypnosis, and talk about any concerns you may have.

Then we move on to the Hypnosis phase, which consists of three steps:

1 - First, what is known as induction, during which we guide you into a state of hypnosis at your own pace.
What clients generally find most enjoyable is a gradual physical and mental relaxation. This has nothing to do with stage hypnosis, where a person is put into a hypnotic state with the snap of a finger. We do this very rarely because this gradual relaxation—this letting go—is truly an integral part of the experience. And it’s so enjoyable!

2 - Next comes the therapeutic work.
Once you are well into a state of hypnosis, we move on to the therapeutic phase.
And that's when we put our techniques to use, for example:

  • Positive suggestions to encourage behavioral or emotional changes.
  • Guided Visualizations to explore your motivations or obstacles.
  • Metaphors to foster deep insights.
  • NLP Techniques to accelerate awareness and change
  • ...

Sometimes we also talk while you're under hypnosis, and you remember it afterward.
A hypnotic trance is similar to falling asleep, except that you aren't actually asleep—you may even be aware of what's going on, or you might not be 🙂

3 - Finally, we would like to let you know that the session is coming to an end.
Sometimes we count down, and at your own pace, you open your eyes again…

The end of the session can then go by pretty quickly.
We’ll talk about what you’ve been through and how you’ve been feeling, but once you’re doing well, we generally prefer not to go into too much detail so that the seeds we’ve just planted can grow undisturbed…

What Happens Next During a Hypnosis Session?

The following sessions will follow the same format:

1 - Initial Interview

The session always begins with a discussion with your hypnotherapist, pShorter than the first session, but just as important:
- What has happened since the last hypnosis session?
- What changes have you noticed?
- How are you doing in terms of your goal?...

2 - Inducing a Trance

Now you know the way 🙂, and the induction is often faster than the first session, especially if you use your own anchors for calm or self-hypnosis.
Some regular customers are sometimes very quick—they sit down in the chair, close their eyes, and happily say, "I’m ready!"
And in fact, they're already halfway hypnotized!

3 - Therapeutic Work

Once you are in a hypnotic state, we will once again use therapeutic techniques to further guide you toward your goals or to work on specific issues you brought up at the beginning of the session.

4 - Back to Awakening

The session ends once again with a gradual return to a normal waking state.

How do you prepare for a hypnosis session?

Preparing for a hypnosis session doesn't require any special effort, but a few simple steps can help make the experience more rewarding.

Identify Your Goals

Take a moment to think about why you're seeking counseling.
What are your main goals or challenges?
The clearer you are about your expectations, the more productive the session will be.

Please share your questions or concerns

If you have any concerns or questions about hypnosis, feel free to write them down so you can discuss them with your therapist.
Feeling comfortable is essential.

Set aside some quiet time after the session

It may be helpful to set aside some quiet time after the session to process what you’ve worked on and enjoy the calming effects.

Cultivate an open mindset

Hypnosis does not require any special preparation other than an open mind.
Be curious and let the experience unfold naturally, without trying to «do it right» or analyze every step.

There you have it—we hope this has helped you understand how a hypnotherapy session works and prepare for your next session, keeping in mind that every hypnotherapist has their own style...
And the
The best thing to do is just give it a try!
