Hypnosis and Bedwetting in Children

Hypnosis to Treat ENURESIS in Children

Hello,

Does your child regularly wet the bed, and are you looking for a natural and effective solution?
Therapeutic hypnosis could be a very interesting option...

Bedwetting in Children

The most common form of enuresis is nocturnal enuresis in children over the age of 5 or 6—that is, at an age when children are generally potty-trained.
So he may urinate while sleeping without realizing it and without waking up.
Bedwetting can occur several times a night and may be accompanied by accidents upon waking or, sometimes, during the day as well.
Primary enuresis refers to a situation in which the child has never achieved nighttime continence, while secondary enuresis refers to a situation in which the child has already been continent for more than 6 consecutive months.

An estimated 10 to 20% children are affected by bedwetting, with a higher prevalence among boys.
This can last into adolescence, causing what can sometimes be deep insecurity in the teenager, who may, for example, avoid sleeping over at friends' houses or going to summer camp.

Note: Up to the age of seven, all children may occasionally have a minor nighttime accident without necessarily suffering from bedwetting.

Causes of bedwetting:

In most cases, there is no physiological cause.

But the first step, of course, is to see a doctor to make sure the bladder is functioning properly and that there are no more serious underlying problems.

Sometimes the cause is REM sleep that is too long and too deep.
The child may even dream that he is going to the bathroom and thus relieves himself in the dream "in good faith.".

Finally, there may be emotional circumstances that cause the child to feel insecure.
This is something to consider, especially in cases of secondary enuresis, when a child who has been potty-trained starts wetting the bed again.
Some fairly common examples include the arrival of a new child in the family, a move, or parental arguments.
But this could also be related to problems with integration or violence at school, and discussing these issues with educators could provide useful information on the subject.

Regardless of the causes, bedwetting can be a source of embarrassment and anxiety for the child and may even disrupt their sleep.
It will therefore be important to support them without making them feel guilty or adding to their stress.

How to Deal with Bedwetting in Children

There is no miracle cure, and you should avoid self-medication without seeing a doctor, especially if the urine has a strong odor or if the child complains of pain when urinating.

And if you suspect psychological issues, a child psychologist can help you.

In mild cases, the goal is to help the child become more independent by following a few basic rules:

  • Talk to him about it, help him take responsibility without making a big deal out of it, and encourage his progress:
    • Explain the problem and the fact that he's not the only one in this situation, and that it always goes away eventually
    • Have him put the dirty sheets in the laundry basket to get him involved
    • Record the nights that went smoothly in a calendar and highlight them
    • Keep in mind that scolding, punishing, or making someone feel guilty doesn't help...
  • Preventing "accidents":
    • Limit the amount of liquid consumed in the 2 hours before bedtime, unless the child is thirsty, of course.
    • Make the "safety pee" part of your bedtime routine
    • Turn on night lights to make it easier to get to the bathroom if you wake up.
  • And to help relieve parents' stress:
    • Protect the mattress with a mattress protector, use sheets that dry quickly...

Hypnosis, a Gentle Approach to Treating Bedwetting:

Hypnosis can be effective in cases of bedwetting caused by emotional or psychological factors, or if the child sleeps too deeply.

Hypnosis is a form of waking sleep in which children are more receptive to suggestion, particularly in the form of stories and metaphors.
The therapist will then tailor the suggestions to the child’s age, using metaphors about control and age-appropriate stories to help the child better understand what is happening in their body and how their mind can take control of it.

But this means that the child must be old enough to have a good command of language and any second-degree concepts.
And of course, he has to be willing to go through with it; if the session is forced on him, it won't work.
